Tube Talk with Amy and Elizabeth

Time for everyone's favorite ghost-hunting brothers - Amy and I's weekly conversation about Supernatural. We are just getting started with season 3, and they are not wasting any time! Amy has our discussions about episode 1, The Magnificent Seven, and episode 2, The Kids are Alright.

Episode 3 - Bad Day at Black Rock

Recap - Sam and Dean answer a call on their dad's old cell phone, alerting them someone has broken into John's secret storage room in New York. They discover a cursed rabbit's foot has been stolen and call Bobby ) for help. He advises them to beware of the foot because anyone who touches it will receive an extreme amount of good luck, but once the foot is lost that person will die. Unfortunately, Sam has already handled the foot, which causes an overjoyed Dean to buy lottery tickets, but a female thief steals it from Sam causing his luck to plummet and putting his life in danger.

Our discussion - as usual, Amy's thoughts are in red:

I seriously hate this Gordon guy!

Me too. A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G.

Did you find it as disturbing as I did to see the difference in the brothers memory items in the storage container? Sam had a soccer trophy, Dean had his first sawed-off shotgun - once again, we see Dean never got a real childhood.

The show has really good continuity with this issue. The contrast is drawn sharply and consistently again and again.

Did you suspect right away there was something not right about the rabbit's foot?

I figured it was important but had no idea.

Bad-luck Sam is hilarious - "I lost my shoe!"

This episode made me laugh so much especially with bad luck Sam. Like when they were running and he fell. Man, I'm laughing just thinking about it.

Why was Bella holding the rabbit's foot with tongs?

I think she didn't want to touch it.

Yeah, I get that now. Have I mentioned I'm a little slow to pick up on certain plot points sometimes?? =)

Bella's take on hunters was interesting - a bunch of revenge-seeking sociopaths, etc. There is actually some truth to that, don't you think?

Yes, definitely.

Good-luck Dean is also hilarious - "I'm amazing - I'm Batman."

:)

I have a feeling we'll see Bella again - she's too good to be just a one episode girl.

I think your hunch may be correct. (I think Amy's just saying this because she's already done with the whole dang season!!) She adds something new to the world, too, which is interesting.

I think I'm more creeped out by this new hunter after Sam - Scranton? - than I am by Gordon. His fanatic, "God led me to him" idealism is scary.

Doesn't this actor always play someone really creepy or evil?

If he doesn't he should - he's great at it!

Episode 4 - Sin City

Recap - Sam and Dean investigate a rash of violent deaths in Elizabethville, Ohio, a once-sleepy town that has been turned into a haven for gamblers and drinkers. Dean discovers demons have infiltrated Elizabethville and are using their powers of persuasion to make the townspeople succumb to their basic instincts. Meanwhile, Ruby helps Bobby rebuild the Colt from scratch and stuns him with some news.

Our discussion:

Richie is definitely a different kind of hunter - fun, not as serious. I wonder how his personality type got involved in the work?

Unfortunately I don't think we get to find out!

Right - he was a quick casualty.

We continue to learn more and more about demons - they really have an interesting mythology.

Yes. It's pretty interesting and twisted! :)

The demons have a god - Lucifer - who was banished for refusing to bow down to humans. Do you think he will come into play at some point?

AARGH I almost screamed when they changed the story from bowing down to God to bowing
down to humans!!! I mean I love humans, too, and I guess it makes sense in this very human-centric show for that to be the story, but it's so close to the Biblical account and yet...not. And yes I suspect he will as the show plants seeds and harvests them in the story later.

Well, I think you also have to rememer that that is the demon's version of the story - and we've seen demons twist things before. Maybe they've just twisted this, too.

Did you suspect the priest??

I thought it was strange when they saw him in the bar but I don't think I thought he was a demon!

When the demon asked Dean if he was scared to only have one year to live, he said no - do you think he was telling the truth?

Nope, I think Dean is scared. He always puts on a brave front and rarely reveals his true feelings.

The yellow-eyed demon - Azazel - planned to have Sam as his second in command. Many demons were ready to follow him. It sounds like maybe the hunters have a good reason to be after him?

Maybe, but it seems clear to me Sam's not interested in leading demons...at least yet.

I REALLY want to know what Ruby's story is - do you have any ideas? I can't figure out why she's helping the Winchesters.

I can't either and I don't even know if I trust her.

Season three is off to a running start - it's a short one, so there's no time to waste with fluff. I can only imagine what's going to happen next! If you love this show as much as we do, we'd love to hear your comments!!

Tube Talk with Amy and Elizabeth

Time once again for our weekly discussion of all things Supernatural. We are at the end of season 2 - Amy has our discussion about episode 21, All Hell Breaks Loose part 1, and I am hosting our discussion about episode 22, All Hell Breaks Loose part 2. Everyone ready??

Episode 22 - All Hell Breaks Loose, part 2

Recap - Dean must deal with the aftermath of the fight between Sam and Jake and pays a steep price for his involvement. The Demon and his spirits threaten to overtake the hunters until they receive help from an unexpected ally.

Our discussion - as usual, Amy's thoughts are in red:

The first several moments were such a tear-jerker, when Dean refuses to bury Sam. You can see him frantically trying to figure out a way to bring his brother back. And then he says, " I had one job and I screwed it up. I guess that's what I do. I let down people I love."

Yes this was heartbreaking. Dean basically lives for his family and he only has one now. He doesn't seem to have any goals apart from taking care of Sam, so Sam's death was almost like Dean's death.

Did you know what Dean was planning when he went to the crossroads? Did you think the demon would make the deal with him?

Yes, I suspected. I like that this show buys back what it puts in earlier. It also helped that they showed us scenes from that episode before. I don't think he got a very good deal, though.

Well, I think the demon knew how desperate he was - I'm sure the more desperate, the worse the deal, because the demon knows desperate people will agree to just about anything.

Bobby immediately knew what Dean had done - do you think it's because that was something John would do, and Bobby can see John in his son?

Probably. I think he can also see Dean. That confrontation was very touching. Bobby cares about the boys and what a completely messed up situation.

How happy were you than Ellen was still alive?? I had to think that, for once, Ellen had to be happy that her daughter didn't stay put like she wanted her to.

I was so relieved!!!!!

It is revealed that a half-blood demon can cross the Devil's Trap - that means that Sam must be a half-blood demon, right? Wow.

From drinking blood as a baby? Weird.

I hope that issue is something they deal with in more depth next season.

Bobby asks Dean, "How certain are you that what you brought back is 100% Sam? You should know that what's dead should stay dead." That has implications for Dean, too, since he was brought back - if Sam isn't completely Sam, Dean might not be completely Dean.

That is definitely something interesting to be explored.

They managed to kill the demon - so what do you do when your ultimate goal has been achieved?

Celebrate? But they have a new problem now.......Dean only has a year and several demons have been released.

Well, that's all for season 2- not as much of a cliffhanger as season 1, but certainly many issues to still be resolved - mainly, how are they going to save Dean? Stay tuned - next week we will be digging in to season 3! Are you a Supernatural fan? We'd love to hear your thoughts on these emotionally charged episodes!

Tube Talk with Amy and Elizabeth

It's time for our weekly discussion of Supernatural - Amy and I are currently watching Season 2. Amy will be posting our thoughts about episode 17, Heart, and episode 18, Hollywood Babylon.

Episode 19 - Folsom Prison Blues

Recap - After hearing about a ghost that has been killing off inmates one by one, Sam and Dean decide the best way to investigate this spirit is from the inside and allow themselves to get thrown into the state penitentiary. However, after FBI agent Henricksen shows up to take over their case, getting out of prison becomes a bigger challenge than finding the spirit.

Our discussion - Amy's thoughts will be in red:

I bet there are some seriously scary ghosts in prison.

Yes most definitely. I thought the ghost in this one looked like an alien

Why would they get themselves arrested on purpose when they are wanted by the FBI? Just for a case?? I hate this plan.

The reasoning seemed incredibly weak to me as well. But it didn't really matter, because the episode was in many ways amusing.

I would really like to know how the relationships work between hunters. John kept so many of them hidden from the brothers, but some of them are nearly family to them, enough that Dean & Sam are willing to go to jail to help one. What do you think the deal is with that?

I think it's like being in the military or something, in a way they are doing something altruistic and risking their lives. I think that probably forms an incredibly tight bond.

What do you suppose Deacon did that the boys owed him so much? Do you think it involved their dad?

I think they said he saved their dad once didn't they? I don't think Sam really thought they should be there.

I'm pretty sure Agent Erickson is way scarier than any spirit the brothers have been up against.

I hate him.

Why do you think the ghost cared that Deacon had let the brothers go?

She probably recognized them as hunters. Or maybe she just hates prisoners.

Something I thought was interesting about this episode was when Sam asked Dean if it bothered him how well he fit in at the prison. In a way, Dean is like many of the prisoners...a person o
n the fringes of society. He is probably more comfortable in that environment than elsewhere, echoing Hollywood Babylon where Dean enjoyed being a part of a team.

That's an interesting insight - I think Dean does feel more comfortable with people outside the mainstream. Probably because he has spent so little time with "normal" people, he doesn't know how to relate to them.

Episode 20 - What Is, and What Should Never Be

Recap - While hunting a djinn - a genie - Dean is attacked and transported to a world where his mother is alive, Sam is in law school and engaged to Jessica, and Dean lives a very normal life with his girlfriend. However, after he starts seeing a strange girl and learns all the people he has saved in the past have died, Dean must decide whether he wants to stay in this new safe life where everyone he loves is alive, or if he should return to the hunt.

Our discussion -

I'm finding myself having trouble forming coherent thoughts, because this whole episo
de was so emotionally charged for me. I've watched all the way to the end of the season and this episode, for me, was the most affecting. These are just my thoughts about the episode, written as I was watching it.

I agree. It was the best of the season.

Dean's wish has always been to have a normal life, and the djinn gave it to him. This is heartbreaking
. Watching Dean realize how his "perfect" life is not so perfect after all, and that he isn't the man he wants to be.

Very sad, but necessary. Sort of a lesson in why pain matters.

Realizing that all the people he'd saved in his other life are dead now. "But why is it my job to save these people? Why do I have to be some kind of hero? Why do we have to sacrifice everything?" This has a very "It's a Wonderful Life"-esque feel to it, because Dean realizes that he DOES have a purpose, even if he doesn't want it.

Yes, a very heartbreaking scene. You're right....kind of like It's a Wonderful Life.

The symbolism of him talking to his dad's grave & not getting a response - this was tragically similar to his real life, where his Dad was never able to say the things that Dean really needed to hear.

I was curious as to why their Dad was dead in the first place. I guess he didn't wish his dad would be alive and the whole family would be together?

I think his Dad died from a heart attack. I think the djinn gave him his ultimate wish - to have a normal life - but didn't really spend too much time on the details.

And despite their difficult relationship, Sam still gets into the car with Dean - because even in this alternate reality, they are still a team.

I loved that. The loyalty transcends.

How do you decide between real life and the most beautiful dream - the dream you've always wanted?

I think the dream wasn't everything that Dean ever wanted, though very close. Also, it wasn't real. And once you know it's not real, how can you ever live in that?

I'm not sure Dean thinks its worth it anymore - he made the right decision, but everythin
g in him wanted to make the other one. How does he go on now that he knows he could have had another life?

Well, he still knows he needs to help Sam. That will give him an immediate purpose. I thought that was part of why he went back, as well, Sam still living in the other world. I have to admit when Dean saw a happy Sam is when I started crying. He constantly has so much weighing on him. I pretty much started crying in this episode and didn't stop until the end of the seas
on.

Next week will be the last discussion about season 2 - what sort of cliffhanger do you think they'll come up with this time?

Tube Talk with Amy and Elizabeth

It's time to talk Supernatural! We are currently watching season 2, and things are definitely getting exciting! Be sure to visit My Friend Amy today, where Amy will be posting about episode 5 - Simon Said, and episode 6 - No Exit.

Episode 7 - The Usual Suspects
Recap: Dean's past finally catches up with him when he is arrested for the crimes committed by the evil shapeshifte
r in the season one episode, "Skin". Can Sam convince the cop in charge of their innocence, or will she be the the next victim of a new spooky killer?

Our discussion - again, Amy's thoughts will be in red:

This show always has pretty good guest stars, but this week Linda Blair was the best ever. She just sets the perfect mood of creepy!

Oh so true. :)

And, speaking of guest stars, I knew as soon as I saw Jason Gedrick as the cop that he would have to be a bad guy.

Well then the whole show was spoiled for you?

Not totally spoiled - I still didn't know how the brothers would get out of this one!

I had a feeling Dean's muder rap would end up coming back to haunt them - I was just surprised it took this long. It seems to me like they should take more care about things like fingerprints and letting people see them sneak around, especially running around crimes scenes like they do all the time.

Oh my gosh they clearly don't watch CSI. They need some tips from Alias on going undercover a bit!

Well, they need some help from someone!

I loved that Sam and Dean were exactly on the same page, even though they were separated in jail. Their stories were exactly the same, they both started working on the anagrams at the same time, and when Dean sent the message, Sam knew exactly what to do. It's almost like they share the same brain!

Yup it makes them a very effective team. If I ever end up hunting supernatural things, I hope I have a partner who can read my mind as well.

I really thought it was interesting that, once again, it's not a spirit that's the evil one
- it's a human. I like that they are starting to incorporate well-intentioned spirits into the mythology of the show. I think it could besetting the stage for big, exciting battles to come.

True.....it makes things less black and white.

If you are interested, you can read more about ghosts and vengeful spirits.

Episode 8 - Crossroad Blues
Recap: Dean finally learns the truth about what happened to John, and has a chance to set it right. The problem is, just how far will the elder Winchester go to get his father back, and will Sam be able to stop him before its too late?

Our discussion:

First of all, nothing good ever happens at a bar out in the middle of nowhere!

This episode freaked me out, because I have a bit of a fear of barking dogs - when I was little, neighbors down the street had a (what seemed like) HUGE dog that would snarl every time I walked past - ever since, the sound has freaked me out. I could totally understand the people's fear in this one!

I was scared of even little dogs when I was little. For a long time, I was scared of my neighbor's dog because he sounds really vicious when he barks at me every time I walk up to my door. Then I saw him one day (finally -- he was always hidden behind the fence) and he's big, cute, and fluffy!

I thought it was interesting that, initially, Dean didn't really want to help these people, because he thought they made their own trouble. This has come up with him before - whether or not someone is "worth" saving. Do you think it's his own guilt about being saved that makes him struggle with this?

Yes I think so. But it puts him in a hard place because really how do you know who is worth saving? Certainly it felt more obvious with these people and he clearly thinks he himself wasn't, but who gets to decide? I also really liked the question that was raised of whether or not it's love to save someone like that. All of Dean's guilt and grief was revealed when he asked how that guy's wife would feel knowing what her life had cost. I do thin
k about this sometimes. Is it love for someone else or the fear of living without them that motivates such decisions?

That's a great point - who really benefits? The person who is saved gets to live longer, but it such a life really worth it, when burdened with the guilt of knowing what had to happen to save them?

Of course, we eventually find out that his dad saved him - traded his life for Dean's. This is the second time Dean's life has been saved, and he asks "How am I supposed to live with that?" Do you think his feeling that he's not worthy makes him more reckless?

I think he's living under such a weight of guilt and grief that yes, he's reckless.

The demon taunts Dean by saying that he never would have pulled that stunt if he knew where his dad was, and that she could have brought his dad back. Do you think she actually had that power, or was she just saying what she thought Dean needed to hear to get her way?

I of course wonder if she even has that information. Wouldn't a demon be able to say
anything convincingly? She knew exactly which buttons to push and what things to say. I guess I don't really want to believe John Winchester is suffering in the worst parts of hell!

Do you think finding out his was willing to die for him will allow Dean to finally believe his dad loves him & is proud of him?

I don't know. Imagining his father being tortured is probably not going to allow him to be at peace.

I wonder what it will take for Dean to realize just how valuable he truly is.

If you are interested, you can read more about the crossroads mythology.

That's all for this week - next week, we will have four more great episodes to talk about. Are you a Supernatural fan? We'd love to hear your comments about what we are currently watching, or what we have to look forward to!

Tube Talk with Amy and Elizabeth

It's time to start season 2 of Supernatural! When we last saw the Winchester boys, they had been in a horrible car accident- who will survive? Will anyone in the family ever be the same? Make sure to stop by My Friend Amy, where Amy will be posting about episode 1, In My Time of Dying, and episode 2, Everybody Loves a Clown.

Episode 3 - Bloodlust
Recap: The Winchesters meet a fellow hunter and join him on a gig to catch a band of renegade vampires, but is the man all he seems, or are the vampires the actual innocents to be protected, not hunted?

Our discussion - as usual, Amy's words will be in red:

This show is certainly reinforcing my opinion that spending time in the woods = bad.

The woods really do not seem to be a safe place.

I am really creeped out by the vampires they have created - their teeth are just horrifying.

LOL!!!! Yes really takes away from the sex appeal.

It's interesting that Sam & Dean seem to know very little about the whole network of hunters that exists. Why do you think their Dad wanted to keep them isolated that way?

It could be his own reputation. Or it could be for their protection. No idea!

As soon as I heard Lenore talk about not drinking human blood, I thought "Somebody's been reading Twilight!"

Ha! Well, if you want any element of redemption in your vampire story they can't drink human blood, until they slip up and turn a child....oh wait. Different book. ;)

HAH! We could do a whole series about different vampire mythologies....

It was scary to see what can happen to a hunter when they become so focused on the kill that they lose their own humanity. I think Dean always has to remind himself that he is more than just a killer, and having Sam their to act as his conscience is extremely important.

I agree. I like ho
w this show used the vampires as mirrors for the hunters. Just as the vampires can choose to act against their natures, so can the hunters. And just as the vampires can become nothing but bloodthirsty monsters....well, so can the hunters. This was really illustrated when Dean relished killing the one vampire.....at that point, was he really separate from them?

That moment was really chilling, to me. I remember thinking, Boy - he's really enjoying this. Maybe enjoying it too much.

I think this could really cause a shift in the way the brothers think - before, they were just blindly chasing down monsters. Now, they realize it's not always as clear-cut as it seems. When Dean asked, "What is we have killed things that didn't deserve killing?', I think he was becoming aware that there are shades of grey, even in the hunting business.

Yes, the choices they have to make are much more complicated and cannot be driven by bloodlust. ;) And kudos to the show for using another Buffy alum.

If you are interested, you can read more about vampire lore and mythology.

Episode 4 - Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things
Recap: The boys meet a very dead adversary that manages to injure Sam during an encounter. Can they face their foe again and this time win the battle?

Our discussion:

OOOOOh, zombies. It worries me that every time I try to grow a houseplant, it ends up looking like the ones in this episode.

Hmmmm........something you're not telling us? ;)

Maybe....I can't reveal all my secret. *grin*

Okay, the scene where Sam was watching....erotic movies....and Dean walks in, realizes what's going on, and says "Awkward." - hilarious!

Funny stuff.

It's one of the things I love the most about the show - the way it injects humor like that into such tense situations.

Was is just me, or did Angela and her roomate look a LOT alike?

They did!

Is it wrong that I didn't really feel sorry for any of the victims when Angela killed them? Especially the scummy boyfriend.

Nope, none of them were very sympathetic.

This whole episode just seemed very bleak. Both of the brothers seem so unhappy - even the colors seemed muted in this episode. I think they are doing a great job of showing just how deep they have sunk into sadness and despair.

Yes, it was a very dark and somber episode.

Boy, this season Dean has a lot of extra emotional baggage. When he said that he was the reason that Dad is dead, and then "What's dead should stay dead...I never should have come back. I should have stayed dead." His tough guy exterior is really taking a beating, and for all Sam's concern, he has no idea how to help his brother. Dean's right - what can you say to something like that?

Poor Dean! And fantastic acting by the way. I think Jensen Ackles is absolutely fantastic. He can convey so much emotion across his face. (yes I've turned into a bit of a fangirl)

Well, I think both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have done some great acting, but this season Ackles has really been given some great emotional stuff to portray. People sometimes brush this show off as fluff because it's on the CW, but the main characters are really well done.

Anyway, this is the second time Dean's life has been bought at the price of another and I just don't know how you would really recover from that. I mean he has to deal with his grief as well as sort out why he's still alive. On the other hand, hopefully he can have the knowledge that his dad thought his life was worth more than his own.

Right - even though the show hasn't technically revealed to us yet that his dad made that switch, I'm sure Dean is well aware of what happened. It isn't too hard to figure out, especially for someone who has done this job for so long. I don't think Dean will ever see himself as worthy of this sacrifice - he will always think he should have been the one who died.

I also thought it was interesting that Dean didn't want to visit the mom's grave. I mean that happened years ago? I'm glad Sam is forcing him to talk about it in any case.

I wondered about that too. I think Dean just doesn't want to think about the past - he figures that if he can forget about it, it won't hurt him any more. Sam has really challenged him to be more honest about his feelings, both to himself and to the world. Those brothers are good for each other!

As an aside, the actor Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam, actually broke his hand during the filming of this episode. That's why you will see him wearing a cast for the next several weeks.

If you are interested, you can read more about necromancy.

Stay tuned - 4 more episodes next week, and this show just keeps getting better and better!

Tube Talk with Amy and Elizabeth

Welcome to Tube Talk! It's an exciting week, as we will be wrapping up season 1 of Supernatural, including the infinitely unfair CLIFFHANGER ENDING, in anticipation of starting season 2 next week. Make sure you stop by My Friend Amy, where my lovely co-host will be recapping episodes 18 - Something Wicked, and 19 - Provenance.

Let's get busy!

Episode 19 - Dead Man's Blood

Recap: Sam and Dean are not only united with their father, but they must face a new foe- a foe they didn't even know existed! Time is running out, and the Winchesters must battle real life vampires to gain the thing that can kill their mother's murderer...

Our Discussion - as usual, Amy's words are in red.

Holy crap - Dad's back! I didn't expect to see him again this season. It seemed weird to me that he just showed up, and somehow knew his friend was in trouble. I have to say I still don't really trust him that much....

You don't trust Dad?

I totally don't trust Dad. He's been super shady from the beginning. I mean, he couldn't even show up when Dean was DYING???

The vampire's teeth really creeped me out. I usually enjoy a good vampire storyline, but didn't like this particular breed of vampires at all. They were just gross.

I love vampires with all of my heart. (That sounds disturbing, doesn't it?) But I didn't like these vampires. I did t
hink it was funny that they didn't initially believe vampires were real! Plus, these were super vampires that could go out in sunlight. Yuck!

I think there is going to be a serious mutiny at some point between the brothers and their Dad. This episode really showed how drill-sergeant-like he is, and that both of the brothers are
getting really tired of it.

Well they aren't little kids anymore, they're adults and in Sam's case, have suffered tremendous loss. They have their own reasons for doing what they're doing....you know?

Right - I think at
some point Dad is going to have to acknowledge that they have become equals - the brothers are just as capable as he is.

I liked the scene wher
e Dad talked about how he never wanted this life for his sons, but after their mom died he could only see evil. I think this episode showed the family dynamic is changing - Sam and Dean are the partners, and Dad is more the outsider. Do you think Dad is forcing them into this on purpose?

Hmm. Possibly. I'm glad he owned up to how the life he has given them was far from ideal. Despite how much this family loves each other, I almost think it borders on abuse the way Dean and Sam were raised. Not that I blame their dad...but....

If you are interested, you can read more about vampire legends.

Episode 20 - Salvation

Recap:
The end is near and our boys and their dad are hot on the trail of the demon that killed Mary. Can all three Winchesters come through this fight alive? Will Meg get away to fight another day? Only time will tell...

Our discussion -

Uh-oh. Meg's back. This is not going to go well.

She's one evil girl.

It's interesting to me to find out that there are other hunters out there besides the Winchesters, and that they all seem to be friends. For some reason I just assumed they were the onl
y ones.

I like the idea of a bunch of hunters. I think it really opens things up for potential storylines.

As an Iowan, I'm a bit creeped out that they end up in Iowa so often - maybe I need to move???

Iowa is a very creepy state. I spent a few pivotal years there growing up...in fact, I prob
ably ran into a demon or two myself.

I really want to know what is special about the specific families the demon targets. Each baby is just 6 months old.
We know Sam and the last kid had powers - the baby in this episode "seems to read people's minds" - there has to be something going on with these families!

I'm curious as well, if there is something about the families or the children, or if it's all random.

But now I am also really confused about why Jess died - she and Sam didn't have a bab
y?

Plot wise I know why Jess died! (to pull Sam back into the family business.) :) But y
ou're right, it's inconsistent with what we know. Doesn't mean that this creature/demon doesn't also kill whoever he feels like.

I thought it was a little weird that Dad had spent his whole life trying to kill what killed his wife, and then when they have it cornered, he leaves his sons to do the actual job. See, another reason why he is shady. (Can you
tell I still don't like him??)

I was completely baffled by his decision as well. He makes decisions that I don't understand. But ultimately, I think h
e thought that he could handle Meg better than the boys....and that the Colt was better protection sort of like a charm. I sort of love Jeffrey Dean Morgan. ;) But I hate his decisions as John Winchester!

If you are interested, you can read more about demon legends.

Episode 22 - The Devil's Trap

Recap: With John Winchester captured, and Meg and her demon buddy still on the loose, can Dean and Sam use the infamous Colt and kill their foe once and for all? Is John still alive? Methinks we'll have to wait until next season for some of the answers...

Our discussion:

It was interesting to see the brothers kinda switch roles - Sam, usually emotional, is the rational one, wanting to continue after the demon; Dean, usually the voice of reason, getting all emotional and demanding they save their dad.

Yeah, I think this is because the family is the most important thing to Dean. I really don't think he necessarily cares about hunting, but he cares about keeping them all together while Sam has become much more driven to hunt down this demon and kill it.

It's a brilliant show that can make you sympathize with Meg, a character who has been trying to kill your leads for several episodes. I thought her death was extremely well acted.

I did as well, though during the exorcism, all I could think was...where's the demon going to go? Ha, my Christian upbringing makes me think the demon needs something new to possess...pigs anyone?

HAH! I thought the same thing - they have to go somewhere, right?? =)

It was interesting that the demon acknowledged that Sam and the other children do have a purpose - I KNEW it was all about Sam!

This is not good.

I thought it was tragic that Dean finally realized that the demon wasn't his dad because the demon was acknowledging Dean's value, and his dad would never have done that.

Heartbreaking! But maybe more because he knew the obsession of hunting the demon was the most important thing to his dad.

This episode really showed Dean's vulnerability where his family is concerned. If it was anyone other than his dad who was possessed, he would have shot him in a second. But, like he said to Sam, "When it comes to you and Dad, the things I'm willing to do scare me sometimes." He's even willing to let the demon get away to save his father.

Yes, this is a majorly appealing part of his character to me. He's incredibly loyal. But if you're hunting something to protect the people you love...well it's hard to have to kill them. I really thought the acting in this episode was outstanding as well.

I HATE cliffhangers!!!!!!

This was quite a cliffhanger.

If you are interested, you can read more about possession.

So that's it - season 1 ends with the family possibly dead! Tune in next week, where we will reveal who lives - who dies - and what happens next as season 2 begins!
