451 Fridays

451 Fridays is based on an idea from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In his novel, a group of people (Bradbury calls them Book People) are trying to keep the ideas found in books alive. Instead of actually saving the books, the Book People each "become" a book - memorizing it, word for word, and passing it down to the next generation.

451 Fridays asks what books you feel passionate about. What book do you think is so important that you would be willing to take on the challenge of "becoming"?

This week, I'm happy to welcome Tasha to 451 Fridays. Tasha blogs at Heidenkind's Hideaway, which is a newer blog to me, but quickly becoming a must visit. She reads quite a bit of romance, which frankly is a genre that makes me a little nervous, so I've been jotting down several titles based on her recommendations. Also, she is running what sounds like a REALLY fun challenge - the Art History Challenge - that I wish I had noticed when it first started. I'm hoping she'll host another when this one is over. (hint, hint.) Welcome, Tasha!

5 books I would save are:

Jane Eyre
1001 Arabian Nights
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
The Scarlet Letter
Dr. Zhivago

The book I would become would be Jane Eyre. Of course. :) (It's my favorite novel.)

A favorite quote:

"I sometimes have a queer feeling with regard to you--especially when you are near me, as now: it is as if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly and inextricably knotted to a similar string situated in the corresponding quarter of your little frame. And if that boisterous channel, and two hundred miles or so of land come broad between us, I am afraid that cord of communion will be snapt; and then I've a nervous notion I should take to bleeding inwardly." -Mr. Rochester, Chapter 23, pg. 221

So romantic. :)

Thanks, Tasha, for taking the time to share with us YOUR list of books which must be saved.

I'm always looking for more participants. If you have a list you'd like to share, please let me know!

I have not yet read any of these books (I am sadly under-read) but the quote she provided from Jane Eyre was beautiful! I have recently read a really wonderful set of reviews on the book, and have decided to make it my next classic. I am so looking forward to it! Thanks for your enlightening list Tasha!

I really love this list and Tasha's blog. I just started reading it since BBAW and love her romance recommendations, since I too am scared of the genre.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is a fabulous book. I think the only one I haven't read is Jane Eyre!
