Thursday Tunes

Thursday Tunes is a weekly event hosted by S. Krishna, devoted to sharing the music we love.

S. Krishna usually features a new artist each week - just to be different, I'm going to focus on a specific song, because it's the song that hooks me. There are very few artists whose entire body of work is in my MP3 player, but I have thousands of songs I love.

Today I'm going to give you a little glimpse into my past. I spent years taking piano lessons - one of the best things my mom ever forced me to do. In my graduating class, there were 8 of us who were all pretty talented pianists. One year, for a class musical fundraiser, we decided to do a piano octet - yep, 8 kids, 16 hands, all playing at the same time. It was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I don't have a recording of US performing, but this is the song we did - not quite as entertaining as we were, because we had the crowd clapping along, and a very showy "ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR" in the middle. Yeah, we were cool. So Amy, Anissa, Cheri, Eric, Joe, Jonathan, and Ryan - this one's for you. Thanks for the great memories!

My piano teacher also allowed me to play in a city-wide piano extravaganza - hundreds of kids all playing at once. This was always the grand finale of that event - imagine it with 20 pianos. Quite a show stopper!

p.s. In case you are wondering, I usually played the top part - on the right hand side of the piano.

YAY!!!!! Not *quite* as good as the Class of '94, but sure is fun to reminisce.

I always wanted to take piano lessons and swore I'd practice like crazy if I ever got to. We didn't have a piano, so I'm not sure what I would have practiced on. I am sure, though, that it would have become a battle between my mother and me. Thanks for sharing your great memories.

I enjoyed listening to those so much. Too bad you didn't make an album or CD, I'd have bought it at the drop of a hat. Absolutely beautiful. So glad you shared. Do you still play?

Mom - well, certainly not as into audience participation. =)

bermuda - I'm so thankful my mom made me stick with it. It's one of my favorite ways to relax.

tea - thank you! That's so kind. =)

Booklogged - I DO still play. I haven't taken lessons in years, so have lost some of my technical ability, but I play two or three times a week. It's a great way to relax!
